As it turns out, the phone had been reported stolen less than 10 minutes after the shooting. The rest is history. Police apprehended Byrd at his home, where they found the would-be-murder weapon and had no trouble extricating a confession. The hapless Byrd is incarcerated following the arraignment on attempted homicide and multiple other charges, and pending sentencing; his more careful accomplice remains at large.
