Vote in a government of your own
Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.
When people of a country are given right to vote, they must vote for the right man and must establish a government of their choice. If they are not establishing a government of their choice, the fault lies with the people and not with the people who are conducting elections. When we are casting our votes, there is no pressure on us and we are free to chose a person of our choice. And if we fail, we would never get a government which shall be working for our welfare and therefore, the old saying that people get the government they deserve shall be applicable on us. Therefore, people like one in India must be careful when they are casting their votes.
We should forget to which political party the candidates belong. We must examine the candidate himself and if is having proper education, proper training, proper experience and if the candidate is having good health, is within age group of 35-70, we must vote for him. We must see that he has a good past because most of the candidates had been involved in so many criminal cases, have gone to jails and the people around us are not having love and affection for that fellow, we must not vote for him. If that man had been in the House on previous occasions, we must recall his performance. If he had been merely attending the house without any performance on his record, we should not give him an other chance. We need workers, because all the people in the house are our public servants and we want performance. Each member must attend the house, must take part in discussions, must be able to place our problems before the House and must give there solution of our problems. We do not want people in the house who just smile and the others accept those smiles with pleasure. We are paying them from the public exchequer and therefore they must perform.
The people of India are wise because they had been suffering under wrong rules since generations and all rajas, maharajas, monarchs and the imperialists had been exploiting their simplicity throughout the ages and had been turning them poor and unprotected people. Now we have been given a choice and if we are not performing our duty well, our coming generations shall not forgive us bus shall condemn our performance. We had been electing people who had been looting us and it is on record that crore of rupees are lying unutilized in foreign banks. It means we are not playing our game well and we are choosing those people who have come before us after purchasing party tickets. We can ignore these people and can elect right people. If parties can join and can convert in alliance, these individuals if elected, they too shall be able to form an alliance. We must choose right people and must try to oust these old guards who had been tested by us time and again and we are left with the same problems which we had been facing prior to independence. This not good for us and therefore, the people of India must have a good government and when the government is good, the people of India shall become great.

Family members firstBy: Dalip Singh Wasan | 19/04/2009 | News & Society
In India the tradition of family rule shall not be abolished because even in elections only people from the same family are taking part as candidates, though from different parties and therefore, we are not inducting people from the people and therefore, none is working for the welfare of the people.
